A collaborative project in which we chose and mapped an aspect of East London. We decided to use the Brick Lane bagel shops as our subject matter for this project.
We felt that the bagel shops were a strong representation of the East End. They are one of the only places open 24 hours a day and is visited around the clock, fueling the people of London. Everyone we knew had heard about the legendary bagels and it seemed like a unifying subject to base our project on.
The result was two A2 posters that map out the grease stains formed from a bagel when placed inside a brown paper bag. Each poster represents one type of bagel and has 30 different bagel stain patterns. The concentric patterns created were reminiscent of elevation contour lines that you get on topographical maps and represent a conceptual map of the East End through bagel grease stains.
